A Bit of Background

Muffin Top is a new guinea pig rescue based in the Philadelphia/Delaware County area and spearheaded by long-time guinea pig caretaker Jim Bradford. Jim has kept guinea pigs as pets for the last 15 years. After the closure of the areas's largest rescue in 2017, Jim decided it was time to open up a new one!

Guinea Pigs are wonderful companions for people of all ages, but sadly they are often treated as "starter pets" for young children. They are often discarded after a child becomes bored, or if they get sick or injured, because families don't want the expense or inconvenience of taking care of them. That's not to say that they don't make great pets for children! Anyone with the time and devotion to caring for these special, gentle creatures will find joy in raising them.

What We Do

Making A Difference One Rumblestrut at a Time

Muffin Top Rescue facilitates the surrender of guinea pigs that are no longer wanted as well as the rehabilitation of incoming pigs who may be injured or ill. We currently have space for up to 40 guinea pigs at one time, with the hopes of doubling that by October of 2019. We work with a Philadelphia based veterinarian with training in care for "exotics" (essentially animals that aren't a cat or a dog).

Housing and caring for shelter pigs is an expensive process. All of our participants are volunteers, but we need your help to feed, shelter and care for our rescues!

Volunteer to Foster or Donate Supplies

Your Home Can be a Haven. If you have the space and the ability to drive, we will provide you with appropriate housing, food and supplies to foster one or more guinea pigs as we work together to find them a new forever home. Please email muffintoprescue@gmail.com with interest.

If you have supplies (hay, food, shelter, toys, fleece) that you'd like to donate directly rather than through Amazon, please send us an email as well so we can facilitate pickup or mailing!
